Permission to apply for suicide
An Australian province has passed a law in Victoria under which specific or eligible patients can apply for voluntary death.
Passing the law has allowed suicide to be supported on medical grounds, and this process has been called 'deadly compassion'.
According to government regulations, non-treatment patients with less than six months of life expectancy may request voluntary death.
In addition, patients with diseases such as motor neurons who are expected to survive for up to one year are also eligible to apply.
Commenting on the passage of the law, Victoria's Chief Minister Daniel Andrews said his father died of cancer at the age of one hundred and six, and that the law would provide such patients a 'dignified death'.
Under the new law, those applying for voluntary death will be assisted with suicide and will be given alcoholic beverages.
Before approving any request, the patient's medical history will be checked so that only those who meet the conditions will be supported.
The government says its information will be kept confidential to protect the applicant's family from social problems.
Officials also say that in the first year, 12 people will be applying with difficulty, but next year the number may increase to 150.
According to doctors, the approval of the application takes 9 days and for some patients the duration is too long it should be shortened.
According to medical experts, it should not be too late after doctors diagnose the incurable disease because some patients have to go through a lot of curbs.
Suppose suicide is illegal across Australia and Victoria is the first law-abiding province.
On the other hand, the Catholic Church of Australia has rejected the law, saying it will lead to a difficult chapter in healthcare.
